BBL Forever Young

BBL Forever Young Post-Treatment Instructions

Post-Procedural

  • If brown spots were targeted during treatment, BBL penetrates the skin to reach melanocytes. The particles of the cells left behind will peel or slough off within 7 to 21 days.
  • If redness was the target, blood vessels in the deeper layers of the skin absorb the light and the heat to damage the vessels. The vessels are shut down, and the body continues to absorb the remnants of the destroyed vessel.
  • There is no recovery time and a low risk of complications with BBL HERO treatments. Multiple sessions are performed every 4 to 6 weeks until the desired result has been achieved.
  • The treated area must be treated with care. Be gentle! Do not scratch or pick at your skin. Until sensitivity has completely subsided, avoid all of the following:
    • Use of scented lotions or soaps, exfoliant creams (Retin-A, glycolic/salicylic and alpha-hydroxy acids), acne creams or gels, loofah sponges, and aggressive scrubbing
    • Hot or cold water – wash with tepid water
    • Shaving
    • Swimming pools and spas with multiple chemicals/chlorine
    • Activities that cause excessive perspiration

Recommendations

  • A cold compress or ice pack can be used to provide comfort if the treated area is especially warm. This is typically only needed within the first 12 hours after treatment.
  • Your skin may appear red and swollen and have a mild sunburn sensation. This is a normal reaction that can last from a few hours to days after treatment. Applying an ice pack for the first 24 hours will help minimize swelling.
  • Vitamin E or Aloe Vera applied to the treatment area may provide a soothing effect. Post-treatment discomfort is typically minimal, but if the area is very uncomfortable, oral pain relievers such as Extra Strength Tylenol or Advil may be used.
  • Arnica Montana is an OTC remedy for inflammation and bruising that may help
  • Freckles and sunspots will turn slightly darker initially and flake off within 7 to 14 days. This is a desired and normal reaction.
  • There may be redness and slight edema, or swelling, around treated blood vessels. Often, they are lighter in appearance and look somewhat smudgy or less defined.
  • Makeup may be applied immediately after the treatment as long as skin integrity has not been compromised.
  • In the unusual case of crusting of the skin in the treated area, apply an antibiotic ointment twice a day to the affected areas. Do not pick at these areas, as this may result in an infection or scarring.
  • Strictly avoid sun exposure to the treated area for a minimum of 7 to 14 days after the procedure. This treated area is more prone to sunburn and pigmentation change. Keep the area covered and use a sunblock with a protection factor of 30+ and reapply every two hours. Delayed blistering secondary to sun exposure has been noted up to 72 hours post-treatment.
  • If in the middle of a series of BBL treatments, sun exposure should be avoided between treatments, and sunblock should be used on a daily basis.
  • If the skin is broken or a blister appears, apply an antibiotic ointment and contact our office immediately. Keep the affected area moist and avoid direct sunlight.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers Pre/Post Treatment Instructions

Pre-procedural

  • If any of the following conditions apply to you, you will need to delay your treatment until a later date:
    • Dental work within the past two weeks or dental work scheduled within a week after treatment
    • Currently sick or taking antibiotics for an infection
    • Have an important event scheduled in two weeks that you cannot be bruised or swollen
    • Active cold sore – if you have a history of cold sores, we need to be notified before your appointment.
    • Tell us if you are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Come with a clean, makeup-free face (whole face)
  • For a minimum of 72 hours prior to your injectable appointment, avoid all blood-thinning products (unless prescribed by your doctor), including OTC supplements (fish oil, turmeric, vitamin E, etc.), NSAIDS (Advil, Aspirin, Ibuprofen, etc.) and ALL ALCOHOL. For extra caution, avoid these for one week prior to treatment
  • Avoid caffeine the day of treatment
  • Avoid working out prior to treatment

Post-procedural

  • Ice the area treated on and off to decrease swelling. Keep in mind the area will be numb from treatment for a few hours, and sensitivity to cold may be impaired. Keep the ice moving to avoid cold burns.
  • To shorten healing time, continue taking Arnica Montana tablets until healed. “Healed” means no tenderness, bruising, or redness (this will be a different time period for each patient). To decrease swelling, you may take an antihistamine (Allegra, Zyrtec, or Benadryl) daily and Pepcid 40mg twice per day, starting on treatment day.
  • Continue to avoid blood thinning products until you are healed. If you need extra pain medication, Extra Strength Tylenol is acceptable, as it does not have any blood thinning properties.
  • Do not apply makeup until one-day post-filler treatment
  • Do not use any harsh skincare products (retinol/retinoid, scrubs, acids) for 72 hours. This includes the use of a facial brush.
  • To reduce swelling, sleep with your head elevated on a few pillows. To avoid uneven results and filler compression, try to sleep on your back for the first few days post-treatment.
  • Do not get any facial treatments for two weeks post-treatment, including facials, lashes, waxing, or threading.
  • To speed up healing, you can apply Arnica Montana Cream along with the tablets. Lips will become very dry post-filler injections. To keep hydrated, may use oil (coconut oil)
  • Avoid smoking and E-cigarettes two weeks pre and post-injections. Nicotine reduces blood flow and impedes your ability to heal properly.
  • Avoid sucking on straws for three days post-injectables
  • Avoid consuming excess salt for several days post-filler injections to reduce swelling.
  • Avoid excess massage or manual manipulations of treated areas unless directed. Specific massage techniques will be taught at your appointment if indicated.
  • No dental work for two weeks post injectables.
  • Do not have any vaccinations two weeks pre or post-filler injections
  • Filler is hydrophilic (water-friendly). Make sure to drink half your body weight in ounces each day for the best results.

Contact immediately if:

  • You have intense pain or increasing pain (soreness is normal)
  • Have an abnormal-looking bruise or blotchy skin, especially in untreated areas of your face
  • If the area appears red, is hot to the touch, or appears angry
  • If you develop fever and chills
  • If the treated area appears blanched (pale) or has reduced blood flow
